Received my exam timetable yesterday and I have papers on the 19,23,26 and 27 June. In another words, my papers begin in the middle of the examination period and end at the very last day. It is quite a disappointment because I would greatly prefer my exams to start and end as early possible, so that there would be less time spent worrying about studies. But in a positive light, the papers are quite nicely spread out and I can devote sufficient attention to each module.
CHEM 3310 lab went quite smoothly, despite the oil of my ylide choking up the rotary evaporator. Luckily, Adam helped me resolve the problem by redissolving the oil in petroleum spirit. I was the last one to leave the lab today, which was a little embarrassing. Nevertheless, I managed to finish the first part of Experiment 2. Organic lab sessions will end in Week 11, following which is a Spectroscopy Workshop. It is Week 9 now.
In the evening, party of 4 and I went to have dinner at KFC in the vicinity of Grand Union Theatres. The air was really cold at 11 degrees celcius. Whenever we spoke,smoke-like vapour would come out of our mouths. Even my nose and feet felt numb from the chill. I had honey glazed wrap for dinner, which is rather healthy because of the tomatoes and lettuce that comes along with it. While waiting for the food to come, I breathed onto the cool window panes and used my finger to draw random things on the condensation vapour. It may seem juvenile but for some reason, I found it interesting.
After that, we went to catch the movie "Untraceable'', starring Diane Lane, as the female protagonist. It is a thriller movie, with a 20 year old male techno expert as a villian. He is so apt at evading from the FBI, that he was only brought to justice after 3 brutal murders. The methods that he employed to kill were horrifying yet unusual. eg. heat lamps, sulphuric acid and anti coagulant. He committed all these heinous crimes because these 3 victims were involved in publicizing the death of his father's murder by decapitation on the web. But the ending was unexpectedly abrupt; credits rolled in just after the murderer was shot dead by Diane. The bloody scenes proved to be too gruesome for me to stomach and I covered my eyes using the hood of my jacket.
I have completed most of my FCC assignment only, instead of all. It's unbelievable that 3 articles from the Handbook of Petroleum Refining Processes is insufficient. I have so much things to do today, such as my FCC assignment, CHEM 3210 literature review, reading of IRHR 1001 articles, and doing up some parts of CHEM 3210 lab reports. Just cannot wait for the academic week to end!

A very chilly morning
According to timeanddate.com, the outside air temperature plummeted to a low of 3 degrees celcius! This is totally unexpected, for the air does not get so chilly even during winter, let alone autumn. The cold air is beckoning me to remain at home and not to get frozen to death outside. I shall make my way to school later at around 11 am to print some articles for my green engineering assignment. For now, let's backtrack to the yesterday's events.
I managed to hand up my CHEM 3310 and IRHR 1001 assignments on time, which lightens the burden on my mind slightly, for I still have 3 other assignments due in the next week. I slightly peeved when all the computer terminals at Auchmuty Library were occupied and had to use the computers in Shortland Union Hub to print out my work instead. Had a heavy lunch of turkey with cranberry jam sandwich and king prawn sushi. The craving for them was exceptionally strong since I have not eaten UoN's food for a fortnight. The food was therapeutic, albeit sinful.
Michael has returned to lecture us on Catalysis for Green Engineering lessons agains. This topic is definitely much more manageable than Pinch Technology, because most of the contents, such as effects of catalysts and rate of reactions have been taught during my JJC and NTU days. I sat beside Jade, and I got to find out that she holds a very interesting part time job as a skiing instructor for little children in Southern New South Wales. In addition, the salary is high with the provision of accomodation.
After lessons, I went to Jesmond via bus 225 to purchase a pair of shoes. Managed to get two pairs of covered shoes, deep pink and maroon in colours from a shop called Payforless for only $27.45 in total. Customer service for excellent because the salesman spared no effort in recommending shoes to me, with a pleasant smile on his face. There was a wide range of shoes on sale, ranging from funky boots to slippers. And, there was a ongoing promotion which was 50% off for the second pair of shoes that you buy. So, in the end, I decided to buy 2 boxes of footwear, instead of 1 :P. It was a surprise to see 3 familiar faces in less than an hour of shopping in Jesmond. They are Melissa and 2 of Aaron's seniors, Lin Kooi ( Horny Ong ) and Kwang. Glad that I managed to exchange greetings with all of them.
I got to save $1.50 in bus fares yesterday, for from the time I boarded 225 to the time I boarded 101 home was less than an hour. So the average price per bus trip was only 75 cents. Finally, I get to make use of the $1.50 for an hours journey on the bus to my advantage. The sky was indigo although it was not even 6 pm. I felt chills all over me while walking home, due to the exceptionally cold evening air and the strong breeze.
Had satay Indo mee for dinner and it was not really filling. But I managed to resist the temptation to snack to feel more full. And I need to get more fruits, for there is only a bunch of purple grapes remaining the fridge. Let's hope that I can get something wholly done today!

Last day of the holidays
Today was a slightly happier day, for Weifun and Oiyin are no longer staying overnight at our place. Alas, I can regain back my basic level of privacy. The house has been strangely quiet, as rushing their the party of 4 assignments at the last minute. To my surprise, I am barely panicking although I have several undone assignments, probably because most of them are due on Friday, instead of tomorrow.
The huge blue black on my knee is giving me pains whenever I walk, even for a short distance. :( Just pray that a miracle happens tomorrow, so that I can walk to school without much problems. It does not help that I did not manage to get a pair of sport shoes over the weekend, and my pair of slippers is the only footwear I have now. Hopefully, Aaron would be free to bring me out to purchase a pair of covered shoes tomorrow. Speaking of the Aarons, they have signed the contract drawn up by Simon and would be staying here for the next 3 months.
Spent most of the day on the Internet as usual, listening to songs, chatting on MSN, blog hopping and checking emails. Finally, I could download the 3 songs that Karen had sent. The best time to download is in the early hours of the day, from 8-10 am. My laptop gave me a shock when it chose to black out on me in the evening. Thankfully, Shadab rendered me some help and the screen went back to normal. The thought of having a permanently spoilt laptop gives me the shudders.
On a totally random note, I crave for Subway and sushi at the Shortland Building. There is great inertia to start lessons proper again, after 2 weeks of sheer relaxation. Life has been boring these days, might choose not to blog on a regular basis if the days get far too mundane.

A sunny day
For the past few nights, I have been wasting electricity by forgetting to switch off the light and laptop when I sleep. It is time that these habits come to a halt. The weather has undergone a drastic change, for the skies were clear and the sun was right up and shining, unlike the previous cloudy days with frequent,quick and sudden showers. Had my breakfast of a butter croissant,a slice of cheese and piping hot milo before doing some typings for my CHEM 3210 lab reports. It is a chore to type a lab report, because I need to use the superscript function often and it is impossible to use Microsoft Words to draw diagrams.
Napped for a couple of hours after breakfast due to boredom. For the whole morning,websites were unable to load successfully and logging into MSN failed. I had a queer dream about my primary school friend, Shairah whom I had lost contact for yonks. During the first few days of last semester, she smiled at me at the bus stop. However, I was too stunned to smile back, for I found her unfamiliar. It was only days or even weeks later that I realised that she is Shairah. We were quite close in lower primary, and often went for recess together. But, we lost contact eversince we went into different classes from Primary 5 onwards. Nevertheless, I have added her to my friendster and I will definitely smile back if we ever get the chance to meet face to face in the future.
After the short sleep, I went out for a short stroll in the neighbourhood. It was then I discovered that our house is located near the dead end of the street. My legs itched slightly when I reached back home, this is not a good sign, for it means that my blood circulation is poor from lying down and sitting down too much. Have been cooking hokkien mee for the past 3 lunches,and I hereby proclaim that the satay curry flavoured source makes my meal taste like mee goreng. Absolutely delicious! Interestingly, it makes me crave for the Hokkien mee back in Singapore.
Chatted with Liyun on the phone for about 1.5 hour, after reading some of my CHEM 3210 lecture notes. We joked and laughed as usual, our topics spanning a wide range, from childhood shows to dishing the dirt about my Malaysian friends. The party of 4 had gone for their usual dose of basketball, and I got a shock when I saw Weiming sitting in the living room when going for a toilet break. Apparently, I was so engrossed in our conversation and laughter that I did not notice that he had come back earlier. Just hope that he did not manage to eavesdrop on our nonsensical chat contents.
Finally, I have received a Chinese song from Aili via Skype, after several futile attempts of trying to download it from her email attachment. It is the theme song of the Return of the Condor Heroes 1995 TVB series and is currently on repeat mode in my media player. Alas, I get to listen to a song without relying on the Internet. :)

10 more weeks before I leave Newcastle =)
After checking my handphone calendar,I realised that I would be going back home in just 10 weeks, which is 70 days. The duration seems neither long nor short, but nevertheless, it is a day worth looking forward to. Time has been passing slowly these days, since I barely stepped out of the house. Quite a few unusual events happened when I came back from Tasmania, and there is this unfathomable strange feeling inside of me.
William, one of my room mates have shifted out during the Tasmania trip, for he had already graduated. The convocation ceremonies were held during the time when we were away. It feels a little odd not seeing his car parked in front of the car and the bare emptiness of his spacious room. And I realised that there are a lot of doors in this house, even my room has another door that leads to the drawing room.
Aaron has been going out in solitude for the past few days, leaving his buddies at home. This is really bizzare, for the party of 4 used to be inseparable. Oi Yin and Weifun have been staying over at our place for the past 2 nights, which is really puzzling. Why can't they stay over at their own place? The feeling of insecurity has heightened, probably due to the fact that I feel that my privacy is being invaded by having so many people in the house. Deep inside my heart, I just hope they can leave soon. I even resorted to showering in the morning, to avoid attracting glances when i make my way to the bathroom at night.
On a more positive note, I have completed 18 out of the 20 questions in my CHEM 3310 assignment, which means that getting a passing grade is guaranteed. However, I would still like to complete every question, in order to get a sense of self satisfaction. But I am still stuck with several parts of my Green Engineering assignment and lab reports for both CHEM 3210 and 3310. And, I have not started on my CHEM 3210 literature review and FCC assignment. Ironically, instead of panicking, I still continue to feel so lazy with no motivation. I have never experienced such a strange mesh of emotions before.

Late night shopping in Jesmond
It has been raining intermittently these few days,making travelling by public transport difficult. I had wanted to go shopping at Jesmond to replenish my severely malnourished food stock since Monday, and finally my was fulfilled late last night when Aaron drove me to Woolsworth, together with Oi Yin and Weifun. The two girls had popped over by our place for an overnight stay as Jeannie had went back to Sydney and Bowie had been warded in hospital for sharp pains in her intestines. She had underwent surgery last year to remove an infected appendix. I sincerely pray that she gets well soon.
Although I bought a lot of groceries, the shopping bill came up to a mere $78. It was a pleasant surprise because going by past experiences, I would have to fork out around $100 for such a loaded trolley. I bought two dozen slices of cheese, for it enhances the taste of omelettes. Vanilla yogurt is a healthier alternative to the Bulla Chocolate chip ice-cream. I never imagined that I could finish an entire 2 litre tub of it in less than 10 helpings! Dad used to say that the most delicious food is usually the most unhealthy food, how true indeed! However, I still need to purchase a pair of covered shoes, for one of the soles of my discarded sport shoes had become detached during the Tasmania trip. And, I still crave for a pair of coloured contact lenses.
Although the Internet has been revived, but the connection speed has been come sluggish. But, at least I can log into MSN to chat with my friends now, which is free of charge compared to using a pre paid card. I just have another slightly less than 2.5 months before I return back to Singapore. I am really looking forward to the 4th of July, for I miss the comfort of being in familiar company, such as my parents, Edward, the lamers, my NTU friends and other good friends whom I have known for at least a few years. Anticipate a lot of catching ups to do with them when I return. But of course, I will also miss Rachel and Aili, but the wonders of wireless technology is virtually boundless and we can still stay in touch with each other.
Meanwhile, I shall try to live life to the fullest in Newcastle, and not to let my inner demons dominate my personality. Getting all angsty and depressed is going to blind my logical thinking. I have never ever expected that such extreme feelings of insecurities and bitterness would descend upon me. Let's hope that these feelings vanish once and for all as soon as possible. I need to find back my inner peace and be the cheerful and humorous Yvonne again.

2nd visit to Hogsbreath and Goldberg (20/4/08)
Woke up at 12 noon after sleeping at 4 am the previous night. Had the last blueberry muffin and milo for breakfast. Attempted to check my email and log into MSN but it was a futile attempt for the Internet could not be connected successfully. That made me feel really helpless and irritable, for I am literally a slave to the Internet. As a result, all of my self discipline to start on my pile of holiday assignments vaporized into nothingness.Back in Singapore, I would be online all the time, except sleeping times.
The only highlight of the day was the Taylor's College gathering at 6.30 pm in Hogsbreath. There were 16 people present in total, which consisted of Fritz, his girlfriend Yu Wooi, Aaron's biomedical and biotechnology friends, Bowie, Oi Yin, Weifun, Cherlyn, party of 4 and me. I think this gathering was meant to be a farewell dinner for Yu Wooi, who had just graduated from UoN with a degree in Biomedical Science a mere 3 days ago. I couldn't help but feel envious when I caught glimpses of her graduation photographs on the camera Cherlyn was holding. Yu Wooi and I are of the same age, but I still have a long way to go before I officially graduate from NTU - July 2009. Yu Wooi looked really smart in her graduation outfit with a teddybear in hand. Occasionally, I will envisage myself donned in a graduation outfit and taking a family photo with my parents who would be oh-so-proud of me.
Ordered hearty meal of chicken fillets, together with broccoli, carrots, corn and a large scoop of potato mash with butter. I shared a table with Aaron and Bowie's clique. The girls were teasing Aaron relentlessly, and "forcing'' him to exhibit physical contact with Weifun while posing for a photo. Although Aaron was blushing from embarrassment, he still acceded to their mischievious requests. Although I was not involved in the teasings, I still managed to have a fairly good laugh. But the situation would be ideal if they had chosen to include me in their jokes. *sigh*
After dinner, we adjourned to Goldberg for drinks. Despite the chilly and drizzle, I order iced chocolate milkshake, for I have not drank it in ages. Fritz and his friends were reminiscing about their Brisbane trip in English, while Bowie and her friends were talking to Michelle and her boyfriend Sim, who are Aaron's Biotechnology friends in Chinese. It was tiring to listen to both languages simultaneously, for I was sandwiched in the middle of the two groups of friends. The gathering ended with the taking of group photos and a hug from Yu Wooi, who would be leaving Australia to start her job hunting or working life.

Its already Wednesday and I have not started doing my holiday assignments. It is imperative that I start doing them from tomorrow onwards. No more excuses for withdrawal symptoms for the Internet is up and running.
